HOW –  do we teach

Step Wise Youth Ministry aims to teach and help children and young people  to know the Bible and Jesus Christ as the source of all knowledge and wisdom. SWYM highlights that knowledge of the Bible and application of biblical principles bring beneficial life changing attitudes, habits and behaviours.

SWYM desires not only to teach children how to be moral people, but rather our desire is for them to follow Christ.  For this reason all SWYM teaching material is based on the Bible.  We teach chronologically  through the Bible by use of narrative bible stories with clear gospel teaching as well as moral applications.   We also make use of the Westminster Shorter Catechisms combined with relevant bible stories.  Furthermore we teach Bible Verse Memorization and Christian Songs, and show children how to use and read the Bible.

In assemblies and class room settings, we use simple 10-30 minute presentations of bible teaching with application using art board, flashcards, and other visual aids.

Teaching sessions are run for Learners during Life Skills classes with the aim of explaining Life Skills from a Christian perspective. Such classes include Attitudes for Godly Living and Managing Anger & Conflict.

After School Clubs  are for children wanting to know more about Christianity. Clubs run for up to 45-60 minutes and include bible stories, memory verses, quizzes, crafts, face painting, games and songs.

Holiday Bible Clubs are extended clubs lasting up to 2 hours, following the pattern of the After School Clubs.

With the Leadership Training, Residential & Non Residential Workshops are run to explore with prefects the “BIG FIVE”, (Teamwork, Leadership, Communication, Problem Solving & Thinking Skills), using Biblical examples and principles. The training involves desktop and practical exercises to develop skills for leadership.

Step Wise Youth Ministry offers training courses for adults, including “Visually Speaking”, a training course as an introduction for how to give illustrated children’s talks, and methods of presenting bible stories simply to children; and Evangelism Courses, teaching how to share the Christian Faith in a simple but profound way.
